The Koutoubia Mosque is the most important in Marrakech and was one of the largest in the Islamic world when it was completed in 1158.

The construction of the Koutoubia began in 1141 at the request of the Almohad Caliph Abd al Mumin and particularly attracts attention for the height of its minaret – reminiscent of that of the Giralda – and for its pink sandstone color, typical of the city.


300 meters west of Jemaa el-Fna.


5 minutes walk from Jemaa el-Fna Square.
